Freedom of Choice - Windows Apps on iPhone

Finally it's here.

No, I'm not talking about the spring, but the new Citrix Receiver for iPhone. Now available in Apples AppStore. Ok, it's still not the final version, but a technical preview called version 0.9. But it's definitely working.

Why is this important? Well, first of all it makes business applications available on the worlds most popular "youth" device.

Since the introduction, iPhone has been extremely popular among younger people. And this is my point. These young people are the working generation of tomorrow, and they will demand to use their favorite devices at work. Now they can do that.

IT can publish all their business critical apps, the tools the employees need to do their work, and the Receiver will make sure they run in a "virtulized" and secure environment on my favorite device.

Citrix also made available a great File Explorer, called Doc Finder. this application runs back in the datacenter on the XenApp server, but it looks and feels just like an iPhone application, and makes it pretty easy to reach my files wherever I am. Cool.

Curious? Citrix has made a great video, showing how this works.

Secondly, this will also help making iPhone a Business device. Why is this important? Because I believe iPhone is the first really user friendly, multifunction device on the market. Remember, most users are hired to do a specific job, not to be IT experts. They are not interested in spending their time figuring out how to install drivers, configure ports and tuning parameters. They just want it to work, and iPhone does.

Off course it's not 100% perfect yet, but I do belive Citrix will fix this very soon. I'm off course referring to fact that there is no Access Gateway (SSL) plugin for the Receiver yet.

Yeah for Citrix. This is one small step for man........in order to make Freedom of Choice......

Evangelisten.
